Good Luck Chuck [Review]

I like Dane Cook. I like to look at Jessica Alba. Combine the two, and you get this, Good Luck Chuck, a movie about a man who cannot get married because all the girls he hooks up with get married after hooking up with him (to other guys).

I actually wanted to see this for awhile, and then I saw the reviews when it came out. The critics agree: terrible movie.

For me, yes, not so good. But very watchable, not ever really funny, but watchable. Nothing truly horrendous, but not super entertaining. (I just learned right now while typing this that “watchable” is not a real word, or at least one that Windows Live Writer believes in. Btw, WLW is very very nice as an offline blog writer. I suggest you check it out if you’re a fan of Wordpress. With WLW Beta 3 and WP 2.3, you have tag support from the software as well. And of course, WLW is free, so nice to check out and try at least)

Jessica Alba is not the greatest actress. She does seem nice, although I remember that when I saw an interview of hers long ago (we’re talking nearly 10 years around the time of Idle Hands) she seemed like a real bitch because she had this weird sarcastic response to every answer.

Dane Cook is charming as hell. His comedy, not always supremely witty or smart, but he is damn charming. Dane Cook is like your buddy who tells a bunch of silly stories when you’re all out together with a bunch of friends, and you all laugh along with a beer, have a good time.

Dane Cook definitely brings Dane Cook to his role in the movie, and that’s not bad at all, but maybe it could have used more of him. Or less. Hard to say. Jessica Alba is warm if not necessarily funny.

Bottom line, if a Dane Cook/Jessica Alba pairing doesn’t interest you, don’t watch the movie. Otherwise, you probably won’t be cussing at yourself if you do watch it.
