The Escapist : Rock Band Pack Coming for Wii and PS2

Yes, of course I will be getting this. Of course, Henry still has my Rock Band, and I didn’t play it that much in the months since I’ve been in Vietnam….and this track list isn’t that great….and 20 songs for $30 is a bit much…….

Oh I’m still getting it, I don’t care about the logic!

PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii owners will get a chance to snag some new songs for Rock Band.

Harmonix, EA and MTV Games are releasing a disc with 20 rather disparate songs for both platforms culled from the list already available via the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The Wii and PS2 lack the ability to download titles from servers – hence the disc – but it appears more songs will eventually be on the way, given the title of this release: Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1.

It will be released on July 15 for $30.

The disc’s contents are:

  • 30 Seconds to Mars “The Kill”
  • All American Rejects “Move Along”
  • Blink – 182 “All the Small Things”
  • Boston “More Than a Feeling”
  • David Bowie “Moonage Daydream”
  • Faith No More “We Care A Lot”
  • Grateful Dead “Truckin’”
  • The Hives “Die, All Right!”
  • KISS “Calling Dr. Love”
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd “Gimme’ Three Steps”
  • Nine Inch Nails “March of the Pigs”
  • Oasis “Live Forever”
  • Paramore “Crushcrushcrush”
  • The Police “Synchronicity II”
  • Queens of the Stone Age “Little Sister”
  • Ramones “Teenage Lobotomy”
  • Smashing Pumpkins “Siva”
  • Stone Temple Pilots “Interstate Love Song”
  • Weezer “Buddy Holly”
  • Wolfmother “Joker & the Thief”

Happy Tet (Lunar New Year!)

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Went out with [[Jimmy]], Thuy, Hai, and Hung for New Year’s Eve (Giao Thua in Vietnamese) here last night, first stopping by Hai’s for Texas Hold Em (I played for the first time and got lucky enough to earn 200K VND net on my 100K VND initial buy-in) and then later going off to Ho Tay for fireworks.

The fireworks view was pretty awesome; we ended up almost directly under them. Debris from them actually landed on me a few times (very small bits, don’t worry), definitely the closet and best view of fireworks I have ever had.

Go Vietnam!

Now, for the next few days, Rock Band, video gaming, and rides around the empty streets of Hanoi. I’m off for 6 days.

This is about the coolest thing ever- I saw the song list and was….(jaw dropping), EVERLONG!!!!

(Most favorite song ever, along with so many other cool songs I’d want to play)

So I downloaded it and put it in to play and THEN….noticed that most songs are Expert only. And I can barely play hard. Why, lord why?!

And I have the PS2 Rock Band, so it’s not like I can download (buy) these songs and play either.

I honestly don’t think I will ever be good enough to play Expert. If I can pass all the songs for all the GH + RB games on Hard, I’d be plenty happy.

I won’t link to where you can get this, but search for the title (of this blog) and maybe it’ll come up :P

Brrrr, It’s Cold

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

I’m back in San Jose for a couple of weeks, and while Hanoi isn’t warm (55 F), especially when you’re riding a motorbike (instant wind chill), it’s downright cold here (40 F).

I had been planning on a lot of basketball, but now, I’m not sure when I’ll get out there. It’s gonna take everyone wanting to play basketball for me to get out there- shorts and jersey top are definitely not cutting it for this weather.

I came back Thursday night, and haven’t done much so far. Saw I am Legend on Friday, was disappointed. Will probably try to see Juno before I head back as well.

Other notes of the last couple weeks:

  • This website was messed up for a week or so. I think someone was hacking the site, and then I tried to resolve security issues, and then the whole thing went ugly for a bit. Ngoc Anh put it back together, and now everything is seemingly ok.
  • Flew back on China Airlines (Taiwan leg). China Airlines is pretty awesome now. Or the planes they use are awesome. I have never been a big fan of theirs, but they always had the lowest price to Vietnam, but coming back to the US, we got seats with their own TVs and movie selections. Normally, when I go on these flights, the first thing I do is look in the in-flight magazine to see what’s showing on-board, and then I notice that although the movie selection for all flights is pretty good, my flight is always ridden with crap. This is kind of what happened this time. There were movies like Bourne Ultimatum, Transformers, Ratatouille, Superbad, The Simpsons Movie, and I didn’t have any one. Then I learned that my TV set could choose movies! Food was pretty good too. Now I hope I get the same type of TV when I head back to Vietnam.
  • Got to finally check out all the stuff I ordered. Everything came ok, though the Halo shirt I got (for $45!!!!) is probably too small. It fits really tight, so I think my sister will wear it (it’s a Men’s small, so it’s slightly big for her, but it seems like a smaller than normal Men’s small- I normally wear medium)
  • Typing this on my new Lenovo T61p laptop, took a few days to set up.
  • Saw the Dark Knight trailer, it’s awesome. Simply awesome. I’m going to go sell Batman (original with Jack Nicholson). I think the major difference in the Joker is that from the trailer, Heath Ledger’s Joker sounds crazy. Jack Nicholson did not seem that crazy or psychotic to me, but Heath Ledger has that certain thing that makes him feel insane. “I like that”
  • Got Rock Band for PS2. It is fun, though I just want to get to Enter Sandman. Drums are going awhile to learn, my sister is already pretty decent at it.

Merry Christmas everyone!

And Even MORE Shopping!

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

I do love Christmas. Every year, ever since I’ve started working, I go a bit too crazy during Christmas. But I really doubt that makes me any different from 90% of America.

Of course, now I make VN wages for an American spending appetite. Uh oh.

  1. Rock Band for the Playstation 2. Hell yeah! Haven’t seen any reviews for the PS2 version, but I hope it follows the X360 and PS3 versions. Too bad, no downloadable song packs though- maybe they’ll release 30-40 songs on cds over the months? Just hoping it arrives before I return to Vietnam after New Year’s. Basically won’t be back in the US after this upcoming trip for a year, so that’s also partially why I’ve been buying lots of stuff. Need to load up. As for Rock Band, I really think it’ll be huge for coworkers and lead to great team-building sessions. Just not sure about my own team.
