Transformers

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

I haven’t been a big Michael Bay fan in 10 years (which probably not coincidentally were my teenage/early-college years), but he is good at what he does: a fun time at the movies.

I’ve always thought that Bay could make better films if he wanted to though.

Transformers is what you expect from Michael Bay: fun. It does make you (at least guys) want to have your own super-cool car that just happens to be a protector robot. But as much as Transformers seems reasonable in terms of the visual aspects of the film (the robots look good), I don’t get why Bay always has to make things a little too fantastical. He is always just a little too much: comedy in a serious situations, unrealistic pauses in an emergencies for that –I love you- message, after all the action and damage, no one has really died or been hurt (just like any cartoon episode). And just too long. (Bad Boys II!) These are all things that he could adjust easily if he wanted to, in order to get those extra points of this is a good movie versus this is a fun or a good action movie and worth watching again.

I just noticed Transformers has averaged a 7.8/10 on IMDB. I gave it a 7.

By the way, I wonder if making out on the hood of a car (scene from the movie) is really all that great. It looks good on the screen, but doing it doesn’t really appeal to me as comfortable.
